Who can name the 3 fastest American-branded cars of the Muscle Car era (i.e., 1964-71)?*
1. Ford-AC Shelby Cobra 427
2. Chevrolet Corvette L88
3. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage 1
Who says Buick doesn’t have a performance heritage?

I’ll take a stab but I only know well known cars. I’ll also assume quarter mile times are the yardstick.
Fairlane thunderbolt
429 boss mustang
L88 Corvette

You’re hot on one, warm on another, and cold on the 3rd.

Those are race cars, not muscle cars.

The Ford-AC Shelby Cobra 427 is one. The other two are incorrect.

Correct. Although one is a Ford.

Nope. Not a factory-made muscle car. That's a dealer conversion.

T-Bolt and Super Stock were not made for sale to the general public and weren't street-legal. The SD Pontiacs aren't in the Top 3.

L88 Corvette is one. The T-bolt doesn't count because it's not street legal. And the 429 Mustang isn't on the list.

In my opinion, I don’t see the Corvette as a muscle car.

I think you can make a case against both it and especially the Cobra. They’re both 2-seat sports cars.
However, the massive 7L V8s and general lack of handling prowess because of them pushes these cars into the grey area between sports and muscle cars, I think.
What I found most interesting about the list is that - of the traditional muscle cars - the fastest is a Buick. Not a Chevelle SS, GTO, Hemi, or big-inch Ford intermediate.
I’m a huge Buick guy, a brand that doesn't get a lot of enthusiast love. A brand most people don't associate with performance. But I think it's because of bad memories and bad marketing.

What? It’s valid. Montezemolo said it himself, Ferrari is ‘American’ now!

You didn’t specify muscle cars.
